Regionalization effort could start with shared sewer truck

ANDOVER — With a little help from a neighbor, the town may be able to maintain its sewer infrastructure without buying a $250,000 truck.

Andover is considering having the town's public works department rent a sewer flusher truck from North Andover.

Under the arrangement, Andover would pay a fee to use the truck, which uses pressurized water to unclog sewer lines.

"It's certainly a win for both communities," said North Andover Selectmen Chairwoman Rosemary Smedile. "There seems to be some real enthusiasm from both towns."

Andover Selectman Alex Vispoli said the plan to share the truck evolved out of a larger, ongoing effort to explore service regionalization with selectmen from North Andover and four other towns.
